Lizards

If you're in the market for a pet reptile, the Ohio Reptile Service just might have what you're looking for.  There are large numbers of pet reptiles that are surrendered daily to rescues across the United States.  So, instead of going to your local pet store, why not check out a rescue site and give a loving home to an animal that needs it?

Adoption fees do apply and all fees go towards caging and general captive maintenance of current or future animals.  So, why go spend your money at a pet store to line a big-wigs pockets when you can get what you want and save homeless pets all at the same time?  It's a win-win situation!

If you do not find a particular animal you're looking for on our site, please still contact us as we might have some animals on waiting lists looking for homes.

If you're interested in one of our adoptions, please send us an email (please do not call for adoption inquiries unless we have already made arrangements through email) with the following information:

1.) Your full name

2.) Address (for local law checks)

Available for adoption

3.) What species or which animal on our site you're interested in

4.) Describe your past experience.  Be honest!  It's only in your best interest as well as the animals!

5.) Provide proof of caging, etc.

Sudan Plated Lizards(aka Great Plated Lizards) are generally docile animals, but are quite quick and might thrash and struggle upon first being handled. Occasionally, a less socialized animal may bite if it feels treatened. They are active lizards, thus requiring a fairly large cage.  In regards to diet, they are omnivorous and thrive on a diet of non or low acidic fruits, crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, caterpillars, etc. In captivity, variety is key to good health.

These animals prefer to burrow, thus hiding spots or deep substrate to allow digging behavior will be necessary.  Temperature preferences are gradients between 75-85 degrees with a basking spot reaching low to mid 90's.

Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana)

Adoption Fee: $50.00
The common Green Iguana can be found in practically any pet store that sells reptiles.  They are almost always wild caught, parasite infested and stressed hatchlings.  This isn't to say that they can't grow into strong, healthy adults though.  They are always cheap and easy to obtain and despite this, pet stores practically NEVER offer proper care advice on them.  These animals can obtain lengths of up to around 6' and males upon reaching sexual maturity can become quite aggressive and territorial.  Your initially thought to be "docile" pet can become almost a terror.  They require large cages that can be quite expensive to build and if you're not good with wood-working, etc, then this can be quite a task.  Their diets consists entirely of vegetation, although, commercial diets are available, not all are good.  It will be a requirement to research this animal and understand it's needs in order to successfully raise one.  While these animals aren't considered "dangerous", they can inflict serious injuries as an adult.  You must be a dedicated and experience owner to qualify to adopt.
